LCDR Thompson is a native of San Marcos, California. He received his commission from the United States Naval Academy in 1997.
His first tour of duty was onboard USS GEORGE PHILIP (FFG 12), where he served as Damage Control Assistant and later, the First Lieutenant. In 2000, LCDR Thompson reported to USS CAPE ST GEORGE (CG 71) where he served as the Strike Officer and later, the Navigator.
In 2002, he attended the Naval Postgraduate School where he earned a Master’s Degree in Financial Management.
From 2004-2007, LCDR Thompson served onboard USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53) as the Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer.
LCDR Thompson’s tours ashore include Ballistic Missile Defense Syndicate Lead, Tactical Training Group Pacific; Ballistic Missile Defense Training Officer, Commander Third Fleet; Joint Interface Control Officer, Headquarters U.S. European Command (J3); C4ISR Operations Branch Chief, U.S Strategic Command Joint Force Component Command Global Strike (J6).
LCDR Thompson’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards); Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and service awards.
