Command Master Chief Paul A. King hails from Honolulu, Hawaii. He signed up for the Navy one year prior to graduating from Albuquerque’s Cibola High School and immediately joined the Navy.
King attended Recruit Training and Basic Hospital Corps School in San Diego, CA and Preventive Medicine Technician School in Oakland, CA. His first assignment was to the Washington Navy Yard, Washington, DC. His other assignments include Navy Environmental & Preventive Medicine Unit Five in San Diego, CA including deployment on USS DENVER (LPD 9) and to Joint Task Force Guantanamo; USS BOXER (LHD 4), where he qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist; Navy Environmental & Preventive Medicine Unit Two in Norfolk, VA; USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76); Commander Naval Air Forces US Atlantic Fleet; and USS SAN ANTONIO (LPD 17).
He is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 119 Khaki) in Newport, RI and holds a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies. Upon selection for Command Master Chief and graduation from the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 51) in Newport, RI, he reported as the Command Master Chief on USS CHAFEE (DDG 90).
Command Master Chief King’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia, and Enlisted Air Warfare Insignia.
