USS Mustin Arrives in Guam

APRA HARBOR, Guam (Mar. 1, 2017) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin (DDG 89) arrived at Naval Base Guam for a routine port visit Mar. 1.

While in Guam, Mustin Sailors have the opportunity to experience the culture, go sightseeing and shopping and take part in Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) events. The crew will also get the chance to interact with the local citizens through a community relation project.

“This is my 10th time to visit Guam and it never gets old. It’s very beautiful here and the kindness of the people always impresses me and the crew,” said Cmdr. Warren Smith, Mustin’s commanding officer.

The island of Guam is home to many local restaurants and shops but it also offers Sailors some of the comforts of home with many stateside businesses. Guam has an abundance of outdoor recreational activities for adventure seeking Sailors.

Culinary Specialist 2nd Class Natalie Garcia says she loves having Guam as a liberty port because there are so many exciting things to do.

“I’m going on a parasailing trip through MWR and I think it will be the best experience ever,” said Garcia. “I can’t wait to get up in the air and get a bird’s-eye-view of the island.”

For many Mustin Sailors, Guam is a taste of paradise with a splash of U.S. amenities, which makes it an opportune place for a little excitement or rest and relaxation before going back to work at sea.

Mustin is on patrol supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
