Command Master Chief

Master Chief Busscher, born and raised in Los Angeles, California, enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1999. He completed Basic Training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. After successful completion of Hospital Corpsman “A” school and Field Medical Service School (FMSS), he reported to Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.

In October 2001, Master Chief attended Psychiatric Technician “C” School and reported to Naval Hospital Sigonella, Italy. Following his tour, he completed Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC) School in San Diego, California. Upon graduation he was assigned to 3D Marine Division, Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan.

During this assignment, he qualified as Fleet Marine Force Specialist. In June 2007, Master Chief transferred to the USS DECATUR (DDG-73), qualifying Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. Upon successful completion of this independent tour he transferred to the Medical Readiness Division of Commander Naval Surface Forces Pacific and advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. From June 2012 to June 2015, he served on the staff of Commander Carrier Strike Group Five/CTF-70 as Battle Force 7th Fleet, IDC. During this tour he was advanced to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, qualified Aviation Warfare Specialist, and selected for the Command Senior Chief Program. Master Chief Busscher is currently serving as the Command Master Chief onboard the USS MUSTIN (DDG 89).

His decorations include, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), Military Outstanding Voluntary Service Medal (2 awards), and various unit and campaign awards. Master Chief Busscher earned a M.S. in Human Resources Management from Chapman University and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Maryland. He is a proud graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy and the CMC/COB Course.
