LCDR Peter M. Bernard
Executive Officer (September 2012 - May 2013)

A native of Ames, Iowa, Lieutenant Commander Bernard graduated from the University of Iowa in 1998, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. He received his commission upon completion of Naval Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida on April 20, 2001.
At sea, Lieutenant Commander Bernard served as Electrical Officer in USS THACH (FFG 43), Operations Officer in USS PATRIOT (MCM 7), and Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer in USS MUSTIN (DDG 89). He assumed the duties as Executive Officer in USS MUSTIN (DDG 89) in August 2012.
Ashore, Lieutenant Commander Bernard served as Force Protection Officer for Commander, United States Navy, Central Command and U.S. Fifth Fleet.
Lieutenant Commander Bernard’s personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal (five awards), and various campaign medals and unit awards including the Battle “E” Excellence Award.
