Commander Giovannelli assumed duties as Executive Officer, USS PREBLE (DDG 88) in June 2017. A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Commander Giovannelli spent his youth in San Diego, California, and was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida, in 2000.
His sea assignments include Combat information Center Officer and Assistant Operations Officer in USS CURTS (FFG 38), Detachment Officer in Charge for the BELLEAU WOOD Expeditionary Strike Group at Naval Beach Group One, Commissioning Chief Engineer in USS DEWEY (DDG 105) and Chief Engineer in USS ANTIETAM (CG 54).
Ashore, he served as the Special Mission and Naval Fleet Auxiliary Ships scheduler for Sealift Logistics Command Europe, as a Director Fellow in the Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group, and as the Air and Missile Defense lead at Surface Warfare Officers School Command.
Commander Giovannelli holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics conferred from the University of Southern California, a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix, and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies conferred from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
