CDR James Andrew Strickland
Executive Officer

Commander James Andrew Strickland, a Lake Jackson, Texas native, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2000.

His first tour of duty was aboard USS SIDES (FFG 14), where he served as Combat Information Center Officer. During his tour, SIDES deployed independently to the Indian Ocean in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In early 2003, he reported to USS HOPPER (DDG 70) where he served as Fire Control Officer deploying to CENTCOM area of responsibility with Expeditionary Strike Group THREE in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In 2007, CDR Strickland graduated from the Naval Post-Graduate School (NPS) with a Master’s of Science degree with Thesis in Information Systems Technology Management. Additionally, he completed his Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.

CDR Strickland reported to USS FARRAGUT (DDG 99) in 2008 and served as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer. While onboard USS FARRAGUT, he completed her maiden deployment in support of Partnership of the Americas 2008, participating in numerous Theater Security Cooperation missions and a Counter Narcotics operation in the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility. He also sailed in FARRAGUT’s second deployment in the CENTCOM area of responsibility with the EISENHOWER Carrier Strike Group and conducted Counter Piracy Operations as the CTF 151 flagship and supported Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In 2011, CDR Strickland reported to Headquarters, U.S. Africa Command where he served in the Joint Headquarters Exercise Branch as a lead exercise planner for exercise EPIC GUARDIAN. While at AFRICOM, he completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase II.

His most recent afloat assignment was Executive Officer in USS GETTYSBURG (CG 64) where he led preparation and execution of the induction of the first Atlantic ship into the Cruiser Modernization Program. Subsequently, he served three months as Executive Officer in USS GREEN BAY (LPD 20) forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan.

Most recently ashore, he was assigned to OPNAV N801 where he managed the Navy’s weapons programs and budget submissions.

CDR Strickland’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal.
