CDR Acevedo hails from Virginia Beach, VA. After attending the Naval Academy Preparatory School in 1991, he was accepted to the United States Naval Academy where he graduated with a B.S. in Political Science and received his commission in 1995.
His first tour of duty was aboard USS NICHOLAS (FFG 47) where he served as the Combat Information Center Officer, and later as the Communications Officer and Assistant Operations Officer, deploying twice to the EUCOM and CENTCOM Areas of responsibility (AORs).
In April 2000, CDR Acevedo reported to USS MITSCHER (DDG 57) as the Operations Officer, and then subsequently to Commander, Destroyer Squadron NINE as the Staff Operations Officer.
CDR Acevedo’s tours ashore include the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, where he earned Master’s Degrees in Business Administration and Information Systems Technology, and on the staff of Commander, SECOND Fleet as the TLAM Tactics and Experimentation Officer.
In June 2008, CDR Acevedo reported to USS SHOUP (DDG 86) as the Executive Officer. USS SHOUP deployed twice to the PACOM and CENTCOM AORs in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom as part of the ABRAHAM LINCOLN Strike Group. He assumed duties as Commanding Officer of USS SHOUP (DDG 86) on 30 June 2011.
CDR Acevedo’s awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards); Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
