Command Master Chief Carlton L. Duncan was born in Detroit, MI and graduated high school in 1986. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy through the Delayed Entry Program the same year..
He completed recruit basic training at RTC Great Lakes, Illinois. He went on to “AT” A school and Advanced First Term Avionics (AFTA) training at NATTC Millington, TN. His first duty assignment was at AIMD NAS Kingsville, TX.
Subsequent shore assignments were at NAVWARCENAD Patuxent River, MD and a return tour to Millington, TN where he served as a ratings detailer at the Naval Personnel Command (NPC).
Sea assignments have included: SEAOPDET Norfolk, VA where he deployed with USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67), USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63) and USS CONSTELLATION (CV-64); SEAOPDET Oceana, VA where he deployed with USS EISENHOWER (CVN-69); two tours on USS ESSEX (LHD-2) forward deployed in Sasebo, Japan; and USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) forward deployed in Yokosuka, Japan.
In April 2009, he assumed duties as the Command Master Chief on board USS MCCAMPBELL (DDG-85).
He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy attending the course in 2007. Master Chief Duncan’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Good Conduct Medal (five awards), and numerous other campaign and unit awards.
