Lieutenant Commander Jason Orender hails from Iowa Park, Texas. He attended the University of Texas where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Petroleum Engineering in 1993. He subsequently attended Officer Candidate School under the NUPOC program and received his commission in 1995.
After completing the nuclear power training pipeline in 1997, his first tour of duty was aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN-68), where he served as the Reactor Auxiliaries Division Officer. In January 2000, LCDR Orender reported to the USS FLETCHER (DD-992) where he served as the Training Officer.
In January 2002, LCDR Orender reported to the Bureau of Personnel (BUPERS) where he served as the Assistant Nuclear Enlisted Community Manager. While assigned to BUPERS, he obtained a Master's Degree in Business Administration from George Mason University in Fairfax. In August 2004, LCDR Orender reported aboard USS REUBEN JAMES (FFG-57) as the Combat Systems Officer.
LCDR Orender reported for his second Department Head tour to USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) in August 2006 as the Chemistry and Radiological Controls Assistant (CRA). While stationed on USS NIMITZ, he completed his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME I) via correspondence program from the Air Command and Staff College. In September 2008, LCDR Orender reported to the Seventh Fleet Staff as Fleet Maintenance Officer (N43) embarked onboard USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19).
LCDR Orender's awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
