|CDR Thomas "TJ" Dixon
Commanding Officer (April 2012 - July 2013)
CDR Dixon is a native of Camp Springs, Maryland and was raised in the National Capital region.
He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1994 and commissioned as a surface warfare officer. His operational experience includes deployments to the Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Adriatic Sea, Horn-of-Africa, Sea of Japan and Arabian Gulf.
AT SEA - His first assignment was to the USS SOUTH CAROLINA (CGN 37), where he served as Ordnance Officer, Communications Officer and Assistant Operations Officer, while being deployed to support NATO operations for Bosnia. He then served in the USS SAN JACINTO (CG 56) as Main Propulsion Assistant and Air Warfare Coordinator in support of operations in Arabian Gulf. CDR Dixon served his first Department Head tour in USS CURTIS D. WILBUR (DDG 54) as Engineer Officer, where they lead the way for 7TH FLEET Ready Tail Ship and Alternate Air Warfare Commander duties for USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63). Noted for his tactical and engineering prowess he was selected to be COMDESRON TWO FOUR Material Officer, where he aided the authoring of Oil Platform defense in the Arabian Gulf. His Executive Officer tour, CDR Dixon served in the USS PORTER (DDG 78), where they were deployed to the Horn-of-Africa for anti-piracy operations.
ASHORE - Following his at sea Division Officer assignments he was selected to Georgia Institute of Technology as adjunct professor of naval science. After completing his executive officer tour, CDR Dixon reported to Millington, TN as the Deputy Executive Assistant for Commander Navy Personnel Command and Deputy Chief of Naval Personnel. He then reported to the Joint Staff and served as the Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Counter-proliferations Operations Officer, in the J-3 Directorate.
His personal awards include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2) and various unit awards and citations. Additionally, while assigned to the Joint Staff, CDR Dixon was awarded the prestigious Director of National Intelligence (DNI) National Intelligence Exceptional Achievement Medal.
CDR Dixon holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the United States Naval Academy and a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.
