USS HOWARD (DDG 83) Participating in Composite Training Unit Exercises
UNDERWAY (October 29, 2010) – USS Howard (DDG 83) is currently underway participating in the Ronald Reagan Strike Group’s Composite Training Unit Exercises (COMTUEX). As a member of the strike group, along with USS RONALD REGAN (CVN 76), USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG 62), USS PREBLE (DDG 88) and USS THACH (FFG 43), HOWARD is conducting training exercises in preparation for their upcoming Spring 2011 deployment.
“This is a really great opportunity for us to practice our tactical watchstanding skills and improve our ability to work together, not only as a ship, but also as a strike group. HOWARD has had limited underway time over the past few months, so we’re working on honing our tactical skills in preparation for our deployment,” says Operations Specialist Third Class Stephanie Torres.
Over the course of the four week training period, HOWARD will be participating in strike group-wide exercises including communications drills, air defense exercises, counter piracy training evolutions and flight operations.
USS HOWARD is member of the Ronald Regan Carrier Strike Group, homeported in San Diego, CA. For more information about the HOWARD and her crew, visit http://www.public.navy.mil/surfor/ddg83
