|CDR Andrew Bucher
Commander Andrew Bucher was born in Harrisburg, PA and raised in Elizabeth City, NC. He earned his commission in 2000 through the NROTC program at North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering. In 2006, he earned a master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Systems Engineering.
His sea duty assignments include division officer tours as First Lieutenant on USS NICHOLAS (FFG 47), Fire Control Officer on USS O’KANE (DDG 77), and a department head tour as Operations Officer on USS STOUT (DDG 55). He was selected for early command and served as Executive Officer, and later fleeted up to Commanding Officer, of Mine Counter Measures CREW SWERVE onboard USS SENTRY (MCM 3), USS GLADIATOR (MCM 11), and USS DEVASTATOR (MCM 6). CREW SWERVE earned the Battle E, Golden Anchor Retention Excellence, and Unit Tactics Awards during his command tour. During his sea duty assignments, he deployed six times and participated in numerous operations across multiple theaters of operation.
Ashore, he served as the Tactical Certifications Officer at Commander, Naval Surface Forces, and was a principle author of the Anti-Submarine Warfare Certification instruction. His follow-on shore tour was at Commander, United States THIRD Fleet, where he served as the Fleet Scheduler.
He was awarded the RADM Wayne E. Meyer award for excellence in Systems Engineering, the Northrop Grumman Award for outstanding achievement in project management, and was an honor graduate in Joint Professional Military Education Phase I. He was also awarded the Arleigh Burke Prize and Bulkeley Award for outstanding leadership and excellence in surface warfare. Personal awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, four Navy Commendation Medals, five Navy Achievement Medals, and various unit, campaign, and service medals.
