Commander Scott C. McClelland was born in Big Springs, TX. He enlisted in the Navy in June, 1986, and attended recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, FL. He earned his commission through the Seaman to Admiral Program in 1995 after completing Officer Candidate School at Officer Training Command, Pensacola, FL. CDR McClelland’s initial sea tour was in USS LONGBEACH (CGN 9) in San Diego, CA, where he served as #1 Engine Room Leading Petty Officer and Lead Nuclear Quality Assurance Supervisor. Subsequent assignments included tours as Electrical Officer in USS ESSEX (LHD 2) in San Diego, CA; Surface Operations Officer in MINE COUNTERMEASURES SQUADRON THREE (COMCMRON THREE) in Ingleside, TX; and Weapons Officer, Combat Systems Officer and Operations Officer in USS THOMAS S. GATES (CG 51) in Pascagoula, MS. His staff assignments included tours in the Joint Readiness, Training, and Exercise Division at U.S. European Command, Stuttgart, Germany and Warfare Requirements Directorate at U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, HI. CDR McClelland has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Governors State University, University Park, IL and a Master of Science degree in Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA. He also completed the Naval War College Nonresident Joint Professional Military Education certificate. CDR McClelland’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and various campaign and service ribbons.
