Command Master Chief

Master Chief Charles C. Thomas, a native of Vernon, Alabama, and graduate of Lamar County High School in 1991. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy June 1991 and attended recruit training at Recruit Training Command Orlando, Florida. After RTC Orlando, he attended QM ‘A’ School at Orlando, Florida.

Upon completion of QM ‘A’ School, he reported aboard USS WHITE PLAINS (AFS-4) stationed in Apra Harbor, Guam in December 1991. He made QM3 onboard USS WHITE PLAINS and completed numerous tours to the Arabian Gulf.

In April 1995, Master Chief Thomas reported aboard USS HOLLAND (AS-32) stationed in Apra Harbor, Guam. He made QM2 onboard USS HOLLAND and deployed to the Western Pacific.

Upon successful completion of this tour he transferred to his first shore duty at Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas in November 1996 as Supply Manager of Combined Bachelor Housing.

In November 1999, Master Chief Thomas reported aboard USS RUSSELL (DDG-59) stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He spent four years onboard as Navigation Division LCPO and was selected for Chief Petty Officer. Qualified Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) while onboard USS RUSSELL (DDG-59).

In December 2001, RUSSELL successfully rescued four airmen of a downed B-1 Bomber in the Indian Ocean while support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Noble Eagle.

Following this tour he reported to Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific in January 2004 stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as Underway Navigation Assessor and qualified as an Afloat Training Specialist.

In April 2007, Master Chief Thomas reported aboard USS CROMMELIN (FFG-37) stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was the NAV/ADMIN Departmental LCPO and was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer. He was Senior Enlisted Leader for two month on deployment while billet was gap. While qualifying Officer Deck Underway (OOD U/W) and Combat Information Center Watch Officer (CICWO).

In August 2011, Master Chief Thomas reported to Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as the Senior Enlisted Leader, Underway Navigation Assessor and qualified as Small Craft Coxswain (Small Craft Pin), and was selected for Master Chief Petty Officer. He was selected to the CMC program in February 2014.

In October 2014, he reported to his current assignment aboard USS OKANE (DDG-77) as the Command Master Chief.

Master Chief Thomas is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Senior Non-commissioned Officer Academy, Class 2011-D, Flight 30 in Gunter Annex, Alabama. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Aeronautic Minor Management from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal, and numerous individual, Campaign, and Unit awards. He graduated from the Command Master Chief Course/Chief of the Boat Course earning his 9580 NEC in August 2014.
