Commander Derek A. Trinque
Commanding Officer (November 2009 - November 2011)

Commander Trinque is a native of Holliston, Massachusetts. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.

His first assignment was in USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CG 58), homeported in Mayport, Florida, where he served as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, Gunnery Officer, Ordnance Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Assistant Engineer Officer. During his tour PHILIPPINE SEA deployed to the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas in support of Operations PROVIDE PROMISE and SHARP GUARD, and participated in BALTOPS 95.

Commander Trinque's first assignment as a department head was as Operations Officer in USS COLE (DDG 67), homeported in Norfolk, Virginia. During his tour, COLE deployed to the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Red Seas. His second department head assignment was as Operations Officer in USS NORMANDY (CG 60), also homeported in Norfolk. During his tour, NORMANDY deployed to the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas and the Arabian Gulf.

He commanded MHC CREW VALOR and MHC CREW EXCEL, home ported in Ingleside, Texas. During this tour, he commanded USS OSPREY (MHC 51), USS CARDINAL (MHC 60), USS SHRIKE (MHC 62), USS ROBIN (MHC 54), and USS PELICAN (MHC 53) in turn, completing a six-month Arabian Gulf deployment while commanding CARDINAL.

Ashore, Commander Trinque taught seamanship and navigation at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he also qualified as Officer in Charge of the Naval Academy's 108-foot Yard Patrol training craft. Most recently, he served as a Surface Warfare Officer assignments officer in PERS-41 at the Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee.

Commander Trinque holds Master Degrees in International Business from the University of Maryland and in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. He reported to USS O'KANE as Executive Officer in September 2009 and assumed command in May 2010.
