Command Master Chief
Master Chief Matthew Rife grew up in the Everett, WA area until he shipped out for boot camp at Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, IL. Following boot camp he reported to Service School Command, Great Lakes for Technical Core School and later Fire Controlman “A” School.
Shortly after reporting aboard USS PAUL F. FOSTER (DD-964), he immediately deployed to the Middle East six months. After his second deployment to the Western Pacific, the FOSTER was decommissioned.
He reported to Pre-commissioning Unit MOMSEN (DDG-92) and seized the opportunity to become a coded Tomahawk Technician where he saw the ship through its first-ever Cruise Missile Tactical Qualification.
Following his MOMSEN tour, he reported to Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit, Great Lakes, IL, Fire Controlman "A" School as an Instructor. He quickly completed his Master Training Specialist qualification and was selected to lead CSCSU’s newest school, Surface Common Core.
Master Chief Rife reported aboard USS HOWARD (DDG-83) as CM Division Leading Chief Petty Officer in May 2010. While attached to Howard, he deployed to the C5F and C7F AOR’s. He transferred to Afloat Training Group Pacific in July 2014.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3); Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal(3); the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various campaign, unit and service decorations. He is also the recipient of the Navy and Marine Association Leadership Award. He completed his B.A. in Business Management. He is a graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy and CMC/COB Course.
