|CDR Allen P. Johnson
CDR Allen P. Johnson, a native of Tulare, CA., graduated from Tulare Union High School in 1993. Upon completion of high school, he entered the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating as a member of the Class of 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in History. He later attended the Naval Postgraduate School, earning a Masters of Science in Systems Engineering.
At sea, he has served aboard USS JOHN A. MOORE (FFG 19) as the Auxiliaries and Electrical Officer, and later as the Assistant Chief Engineer. During this tour, he made two counter-narcotic deployments to the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean operating areas.
After completion of his first sea tour, he was selected for the “Early–Roller” program, and proceeded to his first Department Head assignment as Chief Engineer aboard USS CURTS (FFG 38). In CURTS, he deployed to Southeast Asia in Support of Cooperation Afloat Readiness And Training (CARAT 2001) and patrol duties in the Strait of Malacca. His subsequent Department Head tour was as the plankowner Chief Engineer in Pre-commissioning Unit (PCU) / USS MUSTIN. His most recent sea tour was on the staff of COMCARSTRKGRU NINE aboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72). As the Deputy N3 and N5 for CCSG-9, he completed the 2008 LINCOLN Strike Group deployment and deployed again in 2010 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Ashore, he has served on COMTHIRDFLT staff, serving as Flag Aide for VADM Barry M. Costello and later VADM Samuel J. Locklear. He also served as the Naval Education and Training Security Affairs Field Activity (NETSAFA) Detachment Coronado OIC embedded in Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific (EWTGPAC) where he served as an International Military Student Training Officer (IMSO), International Training Director (N32), and later Director of Navy Training (N37), overseeing Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC), Strategic Sealift, and Joint Logistics Over The Shore (JLOTS) training and curricula.
After serving as Executive Officer, under the Fleet-Up program, he assumed duties as Commanding Officer, USS HIGGINS (DDG 76) in October 2014.
Commander Johnson’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, U.S. Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.
