Command Master Chief (November 2009 - March 2012)
Command Master Chief Belmares is a native of Dallas, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 7 January 1987 and attended Basic Training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Florida. Upon completion of basic training he attended Yeoman "A" School in Meridian, Mississippi.
His previous sea duty assignments include; USS MEYERKORD (FF 1058), where he completed two deployments to the Western Pacific and another to the Northern Pacific. USS FITZGERALD (DDG 62), where he was a part of the commissioning crew and maiden voyage to the Western Pacific and North Arabian Gulf in support of Maritime Interdiction Operations. Including, plane guard operations for USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64) Battle Group. USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), where he completed two deployments to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf in direct support of “Operation Iraqi Freedom”.
His shore assignments include; Recruit Training Command, San Diego, California, Navy Recruiting District, San Diego, California and Commander, Naval Special Warfare Command, Coronado California. During his tour at COMNAVSPECWARCOM, he served as the Force Administration Department Leading Chief Petty Officer, where he administratively supported two flag officers, 300 staff personnel and seven subordinate commands. He was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer and was selected to the U.S. Navy's Command Master Chief Program.
In April 2009, he reported to USS DECATUR (DDG 73) as Command Master Chief, where he completed two deployments to the Western Pacific and North Arabian Gulf in support of “Operation Iraqi Freedom” and “Operation New Dawn”. Including, a Joint Operation to the Northern Pacific in support of “Operation Northern Edge”.
Command Master Chief Belmares personal awards include; Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (eight awards) and numerous unit and campaign awards. He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 124 GOLD) and Command Master Chief Capstone Course (Class 058).
