|CDR John R. Bowen
CDR Bowen is a native of Jacksonville, North Carolina. He enlisted in the Navy and advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was selected for the Limited Duty Officer program and later selected to Unrestricted Line as a Surface Warfare Officer.
CDR Bowen’s first Division Officer assignment was to Pre-Commissioning Unit HOWARD (DDG 83) as Electronics Materiel Officer where he served from commissioning to maiden deployment. Upon completion of Department Head School, CDR Bowen reported to Pre-commissioning Unit KIDD (DDG 100) as Chief Engineer. He led KIDD’s Engineering department from commissioning to certification. Following KIDD, he assumed duties as Materiel Officer (N4), DESTROYER SQUADRON TWO THREE.
While ashore, CDR Bowen attended the Naval War College and completed two Global Support Assignment (GSA) billets as Assistant Secretary to the Joint Staff, EUCOM and to Commander Task Force FIVE ONE (CTF 51) forward deployed to Bahrain. He also served on the staff of Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (CNSP) as Force Navigator and SWO Programs Coordinator assigned to N7.
CDR Bowen’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards). He holds a Masters of Art in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, Bachelor of Science in Management Studies and an Associate of Science in Management from the University of the State of New York.
