|CDR J. D. Gainey
Commander J.D. Gainey is a native of Lafayette, Louisiana. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science.
Originally commissioned as a Supply Corps Officer, Commander Gainey transferred to Surface Warfare during his first sea duty assignment on USS PORTER (DDG 78) where he served as the Assistant Supply Officer and Ordnance Officer. His follow on sea duty assignments were as the Operations Officer on USS MUSTIN (DDG 89) and USS CAPE ST GEORGE (CG 71) with extensive Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Fleet operational experience.
Ashore, Commander Gainey served as a placement officer and detailer for Surface Warfare distribution within the Bureau of Personnel (BUPERS) and as aide-de-camp and special assistant for two U.S. Pacific Command Commanders.
Commander Gainey holds a Masters in Systems Engineering and Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California.
He is currently serving as the Executive Officer on USS HOPPER (DDG 70) and ultimately fleet up as her Commanding Officer.
