Master Chief Thomas was born in Cumberland, Maryland, in 1964 and began his Navy career in July of 1982 by attending recruit training at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois.
Upon completion of Machinist Mate “A” School, Master Chief Thomas reported to his first ship, USS Talbot (FFG 4), home-ported in Mayport, Florida. He then served on USS Dubuque (LPD 8), USS Okinawa (LPH 3), USS Duluth (LPD 6), USS Ogden (LPD 5) and while serving with Commander Amphibious Squadron Seven he deployed on USS Boxer (LHD 4) and USS Tarawa (LHA 1) all out of San Diego, California.
Master Chief Thomas’ shore tours included Navy Recruiting District Seattle, Shore Intermediate Repair Facility, San Diego, Navy Leader Training Unit, Coronado and Southwest Regional Maintenance Center.
Master Chief Thomas personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, six Good Conduct Medals, and various Unit Medals and Awards. He is qualified Enlisted Surface Warfare, Enlisted Aviation Warfare and Master Training Specialist. Master Chief Thomas is a graduate of the Navy's Senior Enlisted Academy , Class 118 Blue, and the Command Master Chief course.
