|CDR Jennifer M. Pontius
Commander Pontius is a native of Racine, Wisconsin. She attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Zoology. She was commissioned in 1999 through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida.
Her first assignment was as the Gunnery Officer on the precommissioning crew of USS HOWARD (DDG 83). Other sea tours include: Combat Systems Division Officer on USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64), deploying to the Arabian Gulf in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM; Operations Officer on USS MILIUS (DDG 69), deploying to the 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM; Combat Systems Officer for DESRON TWENTY-ONE, deploying to the Western Pacific, embarked on USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74).
Her assignments ashore include Division Officer Training Instructor, Surface Warfare Officer School Command; Requirements Officer, OPNAV N96, Surface Warfare Division; Individual Augmentee assignment, deploying to NAVCENT as a Ballistic Missile Defense Planner; Pol-Mil Planner for the Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Executive Assistant to the J5 Chief of Staff.
Pontius is a graduate of Providence College and holds Masters degree in Education.
Commander Pontius’ personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (5 awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards).
