CDR Gilbert "Gil" Ayan
Commanding Officer

CDR Gilbert Ayan is a native of Miami, Florida and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Ocean Engineering from Florida Atlantic University in 1997. He received his commission through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida in 1998.

As a Division Officer, he served in USS THORN (DD 988) as Damage Control Assistant and in USS FIREBOLT (PC 10) as Weapons Officer. Following these tours CDR Ayan served as an Engineering Training Liaison Officer in Afloat Training Group, Mayport Florida and earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from University of North Florida.

CDR Ayan returned to sea as a Department Head serving in USS THE SULLIVANS (DDG 68) as Engineer and then in Destroyer Squadron TWO FOUR as Material Officer. After his department head tours, CDR Ayan served ashore in Navy Personnel Command as Placement Officer, Cruiser and Destroyers Atlantic Fleet followed by a joint service tour as Executive Officer to the Chief of Staff, in US Special Operations Command. CDR Ayan currently serves as Commanding Officer in USS MILIUS (DDG 69).
