USS MILIUS, San Diego, CA -- USS MILIUS (DDG 69) welcomed a new commandmaster chief May 3.
Command Master Chief CMDCM (SW/AW) William Houlihan relieved CMDCM(SW/AW) Lisa Thomas May 3 as MILIUS’ command master chief (CMC).
The change came during MILIUS’ Extended Drydock Selected Restricted Availability(EDSRA) in BAE Systems shipyard in San Diego, CA.
Thomas' assignment to MILIUS began in April 2011, and included an INSURV assessment, an independent ballistic missile defense deployment to the 5th fleet area of responsibility in 2012, MILIUS’ Battle ‘E’ award for calendar year 2012, and the ship’s
transition into the BAE shipyard.
“When I sit and think about how far the ship and crew has come since I have been aboard, and getting the news of our being a Battle E winner a few weeks ago, I cannot help but take a great deal of pride in being part of this amazing crew. I’ll never forget
them,” Thomas said.
Thomas is scheduled to report to Commander Pacific Fleet in a new Chief Petty Officer training unit tasked with training CPO Messes throughout the fleet.
Master Chief Houlihan came to MILIUS after three years aboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). He expressed gratitude for the work Thomas had put forth over the past three years.
“I’m joining a crew that just earned the Battle E and I’m taking over for a CMC who has set these Sailors up perfectly for success. In the short period of time I’ve been aboardMILIUS I’ve come to see why this ship has the reputation it does,” Houlihan said.
“MILIUS is known for getting assigned the hardest jobs and doing them very well. I’m looking forward to this job as much as anything I’ve ever done.”
MILIUS is scheduled to complete EDSRA in August 2013 and deploy in spring 2014.
