Command Master Chief (August 2012 - January 2013)
Master Chief Henderson is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he enlisted in the Navy May 1997. Upon graduation from Basic Training, he entered Basic Electronics Technical Core and Fire Controlman (FC) “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois from August 1997 to June 1998.
He then reported to AN/SPY-1A “C” School in Dahlgren, Virginia from June 1998 to December 1998. He reported to his first command, USS THOMAS S. GATES (CG 51), January 1999 in Pascagoula, Mississippi at the rank of Third Class Petty Officer.
While attached to THOMAS S GATES, he completed several Counter drug operations in support of the war on International Drug Trading and Mediterranean AOR deployments. During his tour he was advanced to Second and First Class Petty Officer.
His next tour of duty took him to the Center for Navy Leadership, Pensacola Florida in December 2002. He was assigned as a Navy Leadership facilitator and the First Line Leadership course supervisor; while assigned he earned his Master Training Specialist Certification and Associate of Arts degree from Pensacola Junior College.
In January 2005, Petty Officer Henderson transferred back to sea duty onto USS RUSSELL (DDG 59) homeported in Pearl Harbor, HI. Onboard RUSSELL, he advanced to Chief Petty Officer in September 2005 and served as Combat Fire Control Division LCPO.
He completed several Western Pacific AOR deployments and several Ballistic Missile Defense LRS&T mission tasking. He also earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Thomas Edison State College. Chief Henderson transferred to Navy Personnel Command in May 2008.
His next shore assignment was Navy Personnel Command, Millington Tennessee. Upon arrival, he was selected to Senior Chief Petty Officer and served as the Fire Controlman Rating Lead Detailer. Senior Chief Henderson earned his Master’s of Science degree in Higher Education from the University of Memphis.
Senior Chief Henderson’s follow on tour was to USS BENFOLD (DDG-65) as Combat Systems Maintenance Manager in July 2011. He was selected to his current rank of Master Chief Petty Officer in May 2012 and is currently serving as Command Master Chief.
Master Chief Henderson’s personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (six awards), as well as various unit and campaign awards.
