San Diego – USS BENFOLD (DDG 65) was recognized with the 2012 Unit Tactics Award. The award recognizes BENFOLD’s “exceptional tactics proficiency, preparedness, and war fighting skill”.
“BENFOLD is a multi-mission platform that is blessed with a top notch crew that literally sets the fleet standard in everything from Ballistic Missile and Air Defense to Anti-Submarine, Surface, and Strike Warfare!“ noted BENFOLD Commanding Officer Rich Lebron. He added, “BENFOLD remains 100% Ready, 100% of the Time.”
BENFOLD recently returned from an independent Ballistic Missile Defense deployment to FIFTH and SEVENTH Fleet that included tracking the launch of a North Korean Ballistic Missile. BENFOLD also participated in numerous exercises that included coordinating nearly a dozen Coalition aircraft for MCM Defense, as well as exercises for Maritime Infrastructure Defense, and Strike Warfare.
USS Benfold is an Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer and Ballistic Missile Defense ship based in San Diego. Her crew is preparing for exercises with international partners before heading to a maintenance period this summer where the latest upgrades will be installed to her combat systems suite.
