San Diego, CA - USS BENFOLD (DDG 65) hosted over 250 family members and friends for BENFOLD’s Family Day Cruise 2012. The Family Day Cruise is a time where Sailors can bring their family and close friends on board to get a sense of their life on BENFOLD and get a chance to show off her capabilities.
While getting underway and transiting through the San Diego Bay, her guests were treated to a sightseeing tour of San Diego, guided by a special commentator from Hornblower Cruises and Events, Captain Rich Glenn.
BENFOLD Sailors and their families sailed in the Southern California Operations Area, spending a day with one another that included high speed maneuvers, gunnery demonstrations, VBSS and Damage Control demonstrations, and a luncheon on the flight deck. Families and friends were given the chance to see a day in the life of their Sailors as BENFOLD prepares for itsupcoming deployment.
BENFOLD's Command Ombudsman, said that she “had the invaluable opportunity to put many faces to names as well as get a real taste of the life my husband has on board that I have never been able to get a genuine perspective of before.”
BENFOLD is a Ballistic Missile Defense, Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer who will deploy for eight months starting in June.
