- The U.S. Navy announced today the guided missile destroyer USS Stethem (DDG 63) will return to Yokosuka tomorrow, Nov. 16, from an 8-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf and Commander U.S. Fifth Fleet area of operations.
Commanded by Cmdr. Michael “Brent” DeVore, Stethem departed Yokosuka on deployment March 22. The ship is 153.8 meters long, displaces approximately 8,450 tons, and carries a crew of approximately 350.
While deployed, USS Stethem covered 34,722 nautical miles, conducted ballistic missile defense operations, participated in maritime security operations in the Arabian Gulf, conducted maritime infrastructure protection exercises with the U.S. Coast Guard, joint air defense exercises with the U.S. Air Force, and joint ballistic missile defense and helicopter operations with the U.S. Army. The ship made port calls at Phuket, Thailand; Manama, Bahrain; Jebel Ali, in the UAE; and Singapore.
