Master Chief Schmidt enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 25 June 1992 and completed recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois.

At-sea assignments include Flight Deck Aircraft Director in USS EISENHOWER (CVN 69), Flight Deck Leading Petty Officer in USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), Flight Deck Leading Chief Petty Officer in USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6), and Air Department Leading Chief Petty Officer in USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76).

Shore duty assignment as Navy Military Training Course Supervisor and Department Head in Naval Technical Training Unit, Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi.

He is a graduate of the United States Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 150, Green Group and the CMC/COB Course class 86. He has earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Master Training Specialist, and Afloat Training Specialist.
