Lieutenant Commander John F. Bradford received his commission and a Bachelors Degree in Government and Asian Studies from Cornell University in 1997. He received a Masters degree from the Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies in Singapore in 2004.
At-sea assignments include First Lieutenant in USS JOHN S. MCCAIN (DDG 56), Navigator in USS FORT MCHENRY (LSD 43), and Engineer Officer and Combat System Officer in USS STETHEM (DDG 63).
Shore-duty assignments include service as Country Director for Japan in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Asia-Pacific Politico-military Desk Officer on the Navy Staff (OPNAV N52), and Assistant Plans Officer on the Commander Naval Forces Japan staff. He also studied Indonesian at the Defense Language Institute and undertook graduate studies at a number of Southeast Asian universities as an Olmsted Scholar.
