Executive Officer

Commander Jeff W. Benson earned his undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University and was commissioned in 1997 through Officer Candidate School.

CDR Benson has served aboard three destroyers: USS JOHN YOUNG (DD 973), USS ROSS (DDG 71), and USS MILIUS (DDG 69). He also served in Destroyer Squadron Fifteen forward deployed in Yokosuka, Japan where he supported exercise INVINCIBLE SPIRIT after the sinking of the South Korean warship CHEONAN, and relief efforts after Japan’s earthquake, and subsequent tsunami and nuclear disaster during OPERATION TOMODACHI.

Ashore, CDR Benson was as an Instructor at the Surface Warfare Officer’s School, a Director Fellow for the Chief of Naval Operations’ Strategic Studies Group, and an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University NROTC.

In addition to his naval career, CDR Benson was on staff in the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Congress, and at the Office of Naval Intelligence.

He holds a Masters in Public Service and Administration (MPSA) and a graduate Certificate in Advanced International Affairs (CAIA) from the George H.W. Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, and a Masters in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.

CDR Benson’s military decorations and personal awards include: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (Third Award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, U.S. Navy League’s Stephen Decatur Award for Operational Competence, Surface Warfare Officer’s School Arleigh Burke Award, and the Office of Naval Intelligence On the Spot Award.
