|Commander Garrett H. Miller
Commander Garrett Miller, a native of Daytona Beach, Florida, enlisted in the United States Navy as a Quartermaster in 1991 and was assigned to the pre-commissioning crew of USS SHILOH (CG 67). As Quartermaster First Class, he was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1996, attended San Diego State University and was commissioned in December of 1997.
Sea duty assignments include: Commanding Officer in USS DECATUR (DDG 73), taking part in the first Distributed Lethality Pacific – Surface Action Group deployment. Additionally, he served as USS DECATUR’s Executive Officer. Combat Systems Officer and Weapons Officer in USS LABOON (DDG 58), one of three ships in the first Atlantic Fleet Destroyer Sea Swap experiment; commissioning Fire Control Officer in USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85); Gunnery Officer and Damage Control Assistant in USS MOOSBRUGGER (DD 980).
Ashore, he completed a Joint tour at U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida serving as the Secretary of the Joint Staff Director. He also served as an Exercise Planner in U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. Fourth Fleet in Mayport, Florida. His most recent shore assignment was the Commanding Officer of Regional Support Organization, Pacific Northwest, serving as COMNAVSURFPACs Regional Executive Agent for the Pacific Northwest region.
Currently, he is the Commanding Officer of USS FITZGERALD (DDG 62), taking command in August of 2017.
Commander Miller holds a Master of Business Administration degree (Financial Management subspecialty) from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
Commander Miller’s personal awards include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (four awards).
