Command Master Chief (November 2010 - December 2013)

Command Master Chief Tyo, a native of Smithville, Ohio, enlisted in the United States Navy Delayed Entry Program in July 1985.  Following a year in the program, he reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.  Upon completion of basic training he reported to Naval Technical Training Unit, Rantoul, Illinois where he completed Aerographer’s Mate ‘A’ school in December 1986.

After graduation, he reported for duty with the Naval Oceanography Command Detachment (NOCD), Adak, Alaska where he quickly qualified as an Aviation Weather Observer and Anti-Submarine Warfare Analyst/Briefer.  Additional fleet assignments include, NOCD Souda Bay Crete, Greece; USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70); and as OA Division Leading Chief Petty Officer in USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71).  In addition, Command Master Chief Tyo completed shore assignments at Naval Eastern Oceanography Center (NEOC), Norfolk, Virginia; as Chief Petty Officer in Charge Naval Training Meteorology and Oceanography Detachment (NTMOD) Kingsville, Texas; Leading Chief Petty Officer NTMOD Oceana, Virginia; as staff of Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Center (CNMOC) Stennis Space Center Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; and as the Command Master Chief, Naval Maritime Forecast Center/Joint Typhoon Warning Center (NMFC/JTWC) Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), and various unit and campaign awards.  He is entitled to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare and Aviation Warfare Specialist Insignia and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Psychology from Ashford University.
