CDR Gill McCarthy
Executive Officer

Commander McCarthy is a native of Templeton, Massachusetts, and a 1994 graduate of Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, Massachusetts. He received his commission through Navy Officer Candidate School in 1998 and immediately entered the Surface Warfare community.

His Division Officer tours were onboard USS BRISCOE (DD 977) as Damage Control Assistant, and USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51) as Navigator. He completed his Department Head tours as the Operations Officer first on USS HALSEY (DDG 97), and then on the Staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron SEVEN. Additionally, during Operation Enduring Freedom, he volunteered for assignment in Afghanistan as the Operations Officer for Task Force Biometrics.

He is a 2003 graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, where he received a Master of Business Administration in Defense Financial Management. This led to assignment as the Surface Navy Budget Analyst in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Financial Management and Comptroller (FMB), and subsequent role as a Financial Analyst for the Surface Warfare Financial Branch (OPNAV N96).

Commander McCarthy is currently the Executive Officer of USS RUSSELL (DDG 59). His awards include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
