CDR Rodney M. Patton Commanding Officer (April 2009 - April 2011) |
CDR Patton is a native of a Strasburg, Ohio. He was awarded a four- year NROTC scholarship to attend the Ohio State University where he graduated and received his commission in 1992.
His first tour of duty was aboard USS ROBERT G. BRADLEY (FFG 49), where he served as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and later, the Ordnance Officer and Main Propulsion Assistant. In September 1996, CDR Patton reported to Surface Warfare Officer School where he served as the Administrative Officer.
In July 1999, CDR Patton reported to USS RUSSELL (DDG 59) and served a fifteen-month tour as the Engineering Officer. He completed a second tour as Chief Engineer aboard USS FLETCHER (DD 992), and finished his tour in Hawaii as the Material Officer for Destroyer Squadron 31. In June 2003, CDR Patton completed his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME I) and obtained a Master’s Degree from the Naval War College.
In June 2004, CDR Patton reported to USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG 62) in Yokosuka, Japan as the Executive Officer. USS CHANCELLORSVILLE deployed as the Air Defense Commander for the KITTY HAWK and ENTERPRISE Strike Groups.
CDR Patton reported to U.S. Northern Command in August 2006. While in Colorado Springs, he served as the Current Operations Deputy Assistant for Ballistic Missile Defense. He also completed his Missile Defense Officer qualification in Cheyenne Mountain.
CDR Patton’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit awards.
