|CDR Scott B. Hattaway
Commander Hattaway is originally from Montgomery, Alabama. He attended the United States Naval Academy where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Systems Engineering in 1996.
Following initial training at the Surface Warfare Officer’s School in Newport, RI, CDR Hattaway reported to USS HEWITT (DD 966) serving as Gunnery Officer and later fleeting up as the Combat Systems Officer. In October 1999, he reported to USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) as P-3 Division Officer and Engineering Training Officer where he qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch on the oldest engineering plant in the Navy.
In January 2002, CDR Hattaway reported to USS MITSCHER (DDG 57) as the Engineer Officer, assisting in the development of early ballistic missile defense efforts in Operation JUNIPER COBRA and executing strike missions in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Following this tour, he reported to the staff of Commander Destroyer Squadron 22 as the Material Officer (N4). During this tour, DESRON 22 integrated the first Spanish AEGIS frigate into battlegroup operations and deployed with the THEODORE ROOSEVELT Carrier Strike Group.
CDR Hattaway’s shore tours include the Naval Postgraduate School where he graduated in 2008 with a Master’s of Science in Operations Research and was awarded the Chief of Naval Operations Award for Excellence in Operations Research; and the Staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, Assessment Division (N81) where he served as the Section Head for World Class Models.
He reported as the Executive Officer in USS JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG 56) in November 2010. As Executive Officer he participated in Operation TOMODACHI, conducting search and rescue and disaster relief efforts in the wake of the Tohoku Earthquake, tsunami, and Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear disaster. He fleeted up to command of USS JOHN S. MCCAIN on 25 April 2012.
CDR Hattaway’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards. He is a designated subspecialist in both Operations Research and Modeling and Simulation.
