CMDCM(SW/AW) Jeremiah Montanez
Command Master Chief
Born in Manila, Philippines, Command Master Chief (SW/AW) Jeremiah Montanez enlisted in the U.S. Navy at Subic Bay Naval Base, Philippines in March 1988. He graduated as 'Honor Man' during basic training at the Recruit Training Command (RTC) in San Diego, Calif.
After his training, he completed Mess Management Specialist "A" School and began his first military service onboard USS JOSEPH STRAUSS (DDG 16) homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He continued his next sea duty assignment in Hawaii with USS LEFTWICH (DD 984) where he was named 'Command Sailor of the Year'.
Returning to California, he was stationed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, Calif. His following tour was at Naval Support Activity, Souda Bay Crete, Greece. After a year, he transferred to USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64) homeported in North Island Naval Station, San Diego, Calif.
In December 1998, Master Chief Montanez reported for duty at Navy Recruiting District San Diego. He was advanced to Chief Petty Officer while serving as the Recruiter-In-Charge (RINC) of NRS El Cajon. He reported to USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) homeported in North Island and while onboard, he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2002. Back to his shore duty assignment in 2005, he reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes as a Recruit Division Commander. He was selected to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer in 2006.
Master Chief Montanez was selected to the Command Master Chief (CMC) Program in January 2008. He attended the CMC Course and graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, R.I., Class 138. In June 2008, he received his first duty assignment as Command Master Chief to the Black Eagles of VAW-113, Carrier Airborne Warning and Control Squadron Aircraft, E-2C Hawkeye, stationed at Point Mugu CA, embarked at USS RONALD REAGAN. VAW-113 was the only squadron from Carrier Air Wing Group who earned back to back Battle Efficiency "E" awards in fiscal years 2008 and 2009. In October 2010, he reported as the Command Master Chief of Navy Recruiting District San Diego. Currently, CMC Montanez is on board the USS CURTIS WILBUR DDG-54, forward deployed ship stationed at Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan.
Master Chief Montanez is qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and holds a Master Training Specialist designation. His personal awards and accomplishments include Meritorious Service Medal, six Navy Commendation Medals, seven Navy Achievement Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, and other service awards. He has an Associate of Science degree in Radiologic Technology, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the Malcolm Baldrige School of Business at Post University, Waterbury, Connecticut. He has completed the Enlisted and Officer Primary Professional Military Education Course at Naval War College.
