Commanding Officer (April 2010 - April 2012)
CDR Christopher T. Monroe is a native of Gray, Maine. He was commissioned in 1993 after graduating from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a bachelor of arts degree in Political Science. He earned an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management in June, 2000 and holds a masters degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
CDR Monroe’s first sea duty tour was as the Auxiliaries Officer, Damage Control Assistant, and Air Defense Officer in USS HUE CITY (CG 66). He also served tours of duty as the Operations Officer in USS MILIUS (DDG-69), Operations Officer in USS VELLA GULF (CG-72), and Executive Officer in USS HALSEY (DDG-97). His most recent overseas deployment was to the Horn of Africa in support of counter-terrorism operations in the region..
Ashore, he has served as an NROTC Instructor at Northwestern University, an action officer in the Pentagon (OPNAV N86), and as a Special Assistant to the Chief of the Naval Operations (OPNAV N00Z). Following his most recent sea tour, CDR Monroe attended the U.S. Naval War College and participated in the HALSEY Alfa Advanced Research Project examining access denial challenges in the Pacific theater. .
Commander Monroe's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), and various service campaign and unit decorations.
