SAN DIEGO -- On 16 September, Sailors from the Precommissioning Units JOHN P. MURTHA (LPD 26), JOHN FINN (DDG 113), and RAFAEL PERALTA (DDG 115) traveled to the Sergeant Rafael Peralta Wounded Warrior Battalion (West) Headquarters located onboad the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton to celebrate the pinning of five new Chief Petty Officers.
The Guest Speaker was retired Command Master Chief David Dearie, former Navy Region Southwest Command Master Chief. He spoke about the history of the Chief’s mess and the responsibility that falls on our newest Chief Petty Officers. In addition, he reminded the new CPOs of the significance of the time-honored phrase, “Ask the Chief.”
The Command Master Chiefs from the JOHN P. MURTHA and RAFAEL PERALTA, CMDCM Crisafulli and CMDCM Lira, spoke to the gathered individuals about the pride that they took in taking part in CPO 365 Phase 2 (the indoctrination process for CPO Selects) this year, and the challenges that each Selectee faced throughout the previous six weeks.
Also present for the event were Sergeant Rafael Peralta’s mother, Rosa, and his sister, Icela. Rosa Peralta is RAFAEL PERALTA’s sponsor, and will officially christen her next month, breaking a champagne bottle on her stem in a public ceremony on October 31st in Bath, Maine.

RAFAEL PERALTA is currently under construction in Bath, Maine, and is scheduled for commissioning in 2017.
