A native of Chicago, IL., CDR Patterson graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science. He was commissioned through the Naval ROTC program.
Afloat, CDR Patterson served his division officer tours as the Weapons Officer of USS ARTHUR W. RADFORD (DD 968) and the Main Propulsion Assistant of USS JARRETT (FFG 33). He later served during his department head tours as Chief Engineer of USS DECATUR (DDG 73) and the Materiel & Logistics Officer for Commander, Amphibious Squadron ONE. His most recent sea duty was as the Executive Officer of USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52).
Ashore, Commander Patterson has been assigned to the Naval Postgraduate School receiving a Masters of Science in Information Technology Management. Following his department head tours, he served as the Education and Special Placement Branch Head for the Navy Personnel Command. His most recent tour was as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Cruiser/Destroyer Current Readiness at Commander, Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Commander Patterson's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
