|CDR Micheal K. Wagner
Commander Wagner is a native of Minnesota. He enlisted in the Navy in 1987 as a Fire Control Technician. In December of 1994, he was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program and was transferred to the University of Minnesota to complete his Bachelor of Science degree. He graduated and was commissioned in 1997.
At sea he has served aboard USS ARKANSAS (CGN 41) as Leading Tomahawk Technician and Work Center Supervisor, USS RAMAGE (DDG 61) as First Lieutenant, USS RUSSELL (DDG 59) as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer, and USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57) as Executive Officer.
He commanded Patrol Coastal Crew MIKE. During this time he commanded USS THUNDERBOLT (PC 12) stationed in Little Creek, VA and deployed in USS FIREBOLT (PC 10) in the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
His shore assignments include Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division, Chief of Naval Operations Staff where he worked in the Surface Warfare Directorate as an Action Officer for Theater Air and Missile Defense and Navy Air and Missile Defense Command as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Networks and Communications.
He attended the Marine Corps University Command and Staff College and the School of Advanced Warfighting where he earned a Masters of Military Sciences degree and a Masters of Operational Studies degree respectively.
He is currently the Prospective Commanding Officer for the future USS JOHN FINN (DDG 113).
Commander Wagner has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (Four gold stars), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (Four gold stars), and numerous additional service medals and unit awards.
