Commanding Officer (September 2014 - March 2016)
Commander Hutchison is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. He enlisted in the Navy in November 1995 as a nuclear Machinist's Mate, and just prior to completion of that training was selected for Officer's Candidate School as a Surface Warfare Officer.
At sea, his first assignment was to the pre-commissioning crew of USS O'KANE (DDG 77), serving as the Damage Control Assistant from October 1998 to March 2001. His next assignment was aboard the USS CROMMELIN (FFG 37) as the Ordnance/Fire Control Officer and Force Protection Officer from April 2001 to June 2002. As a Department Head, he served as Operations Officer aboard the USS CHAFEE (DDG 90) from March 2005 to August 2006, where he deployed with her to the Central Command area of responsibility as part of NIMITZ Strike Group. His next assignment was as the Operations Officer for Destroyer Squadron 50 in Bahrain from September 2006 to September 2007.
Ashore, CDR Hutchison participated in the Washington DC Intern Program from 2002 to 2004. After his Department Head tours, he served as a force structure analyst at OPNAV N81 from October 2007 to September 2009, and as a budget analyst in J-8, Program and Budget Analysis Division, from October 2009 to July 2012. CDR Hutchison reported to USS MICHAEL MURPHY as Executive Officer in May 2013 and assumed command in September 2014.
CDR Hutchison holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from The George Washington University.
