CMDCM(SW) Benjamin Pierson
Command Master Chief

Master Chief Pierson is a native of Dallas, Texas. He enlisted in the United States Navy in May 1997 and attended recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois. After completion of recruit training, he reported to Fleet ASW Training Center, Point Loma, California for STG “A” and “C” schools.

He reported to USS CARNEY (DDG 64) as STG3 in April 1999. While onboard CARNEY he completed two deployments- one to the Mediterranean Sea and the second to the Arabian Gulf in support of OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH. During his tour he was selected as a Junior Sailor of the Year, and meritoriously advanced to STG2.

He reported to his next assignment, Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio, Texas, in May 2003. Prior to arrival, he completed recruiting school in Pensacola, Florida where he was advanced to STG1. He was assigned to Navy Recruiting Station Round Rock, Texas and was recognized as the Master Chief Bakarian Award winner for recruiting excellence. He became the Recruiter-in-Charge of his station and was selected to Chief Petty Officer in 2005. Pierson later became a Zone Supervisor in NRD San Antonio and finished his tour in July 2007.

Pierson then attended ASW Specialist school in Point Loma, California, on his way to USS DEWERT (FFG 45) in Mayport, Florida, reporting in October 2007. While stationed on DEWERT he completed two successful Counter Narco-Terrorism Deployments and one Counter Piracy deployment to Africa and the FIFTH FLT AOR. Pierson was a finalist for the Master Chief George Sirian Award for inspirational leadership in 2010, and was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer. He transferred in June 2010 to Commander, Naval Surface Group, Middle Pacific in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where he served as the N7 Training Officer and N82 ASW Officer. In 2012 he was selected to the Command Senior Chief Program and transferred in December 2012. He attended the CMC/COB Course en route to be the first Command Senior Chief of the Naval War College in Newport, RI, where he was selected to Master Chief Petty Officer in 2015. Master Chief Pierson became the Command Master Chief of the USS MICHAEL MURPHY in December of 2015.

He has an Associate of Arts Degree in Electronic Technology from the University of Phoenix. A graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (SEA) Class 166 (Gray Group), he was the recipient of the Peter Tomich Award for Distinguished Leadership. In 2012, he was appointed an Honorary Admiral in the Texas Navy by the Governor of Texas.

His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (8 awards), and various unit citations.
