CDR James Sordi
Executive Officer

Commander Sordi is a native of Brooklyn, NY. He is a 2001 graduate of State University of New York Maritime College, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation, a U.S. Coast Guard Third Mate License and his commission through the Navy Merchant Marine Reserve Program.

Commander Sordi’s sea tours include duty aboard USS HIGGINS (DDG 76) & USS BENFOLD (DDG 65) as Main Propulsion Officer, USS HALSEY (DDG 97) as Navigator, USS HIGGINS (DDG 76) as Operations Officer, and MCM Crew PERSISTENT as the Executive Officer and, later, as the Commanding Officer. While in command of MCM Crew PERSISTENT he successfully commanded five warships; USS DEVASTATOR (MCM 6), USS ARDENT (MCM 12), USS CHAMPION (MCM 4), USS CHIEF (MCM 14), and USS DEFENDER (MCM 2). During these assignments, he completed five deployments to the Western Pacific, Arabian Gulf, Mediterranean, Southern Pacific, and Caribbean.

Ashore, Commander Sordi attended the Naval Post Graduate School where he earned a Master of Science in Computer Science and completed his JPME Phase I. His most recent assignment was as the AEGIS combat system Requirements Officer for the Director of Surface Warfare (N96), Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, DC.

Commander Sordi’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal; Navy Commendation Medal (third award); Navy Achievement Medal (second award) and various unit and service awards.
