SAN DIEGO - The USS WILLIAM P. LAWRENCE (DDG 110) Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD), whose goal is to educate sailors against making decisions that will aversely affect their lives, volunteered their time on September 10th at Crimes Victims Oaks Garden. The memorial garden is located in Mira Mesa and is dedicated to the victims of violent and heinous crimes in the San Diego area. The garden is managed by Dr. James Knott, whose motivation to found the garden is based on the loss of his niece, who was murdered 20 years ago. The coalition consisted of 13 crew members from the USS WILLIAM P. LAWRENCE (DDG 110), who spent their day preserving the garden by raking leaves, building embankment walls, pulling weeds and other basic gardening duties. The Lawrence Warriors in attendance were DC2 McCarrol, FC3 Caver, OS2 Mejia, CS3 Balaga, GM3 Paz, PS3 Russell, EMFN Turner, OSSN Paul, ET2 Woodard, FC2 Martinez, SN Green, EN3 Ross, and LS3 Bond. LS3 Bond, from Bronx, New York described the experience as eye opening because it gave him an appreciation for giving back to the community and life as a whole.
