CDR Walter C. Mainor
Executive Officer

Commander Mainor, a native of Montgomery, Alabama, enlisted in the Navy in June of 1987. After attending Sonar “A” and “C” schools, he served as a Sonar Technician Submarines in USS FRANCIS SCOTT KEY (SSBN 657B) from August 1988 to May 1992. He was selected and attended the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program and graduated from Morehouse College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Afloat, Mainor served his first tour as Electrical Officer in USS OLDENDORF (DD 972) from August 1998 to June 2000. After AEGIS pipeline training, he served as Fire Control and Strike Officer in USS DONALD COOK (DDG 75) from December 2000 to June 2002. Following Department Head training, he reported as Weapons Officer in USS VELLA GULF (CG 72) from May 2006 to April 2008. He served as Executive Officer in MCM CREW CONSTANT from September 2008 to September 2009. Ashore, Mainor served as a Junior Officer Detailer, Navy Personnel Command, PERS 41 from June 2002 to December 2003. He attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California in 2005 and received a Master of Business Administration degree. His last assignment was Executive Assistant to the Navy Chief of Legislative Affairs.

His most recent sea tour was Commanding Officer in USS PATRIOT (MCM 7) homeported in Sasebo, Japan from October 2009 to April 2011. His outstanding crew earned two Battle Efficiency awards, two Golden Anchor awards for superior retention and the Marjorie Sterrett Battleship award for the highest level of operational excellence and superior combat readiness in the entire Fleet. During his tour PATRIOT successfully executed the longest deployment to date for an MCM, travelling over 14 thousand nautical miles in four months to nine countries. She was the first US Warship to make port calls to Bangladesh and Port Blair, India.

Commander Mainor’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various service and campaign awards.
