A native of Bayard, Nebraska, Commander Chanden Langhofer attended Vanderbilt University on an NROTC scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 1996.
His sea duty assignments include Electrical Officer on USS FLETCHER (DD 992) and Ordnance Officer on USS SIDES (FFG 14). As a department head he served as Weapons Officer and later Combat Systems Officer in USS PINCKNEY (DDG 91) where he was a member of the commissioning crew.
Ashore CDR Langhofer participated in the Navy's DC Intern program, where he served in various positions on the Joint Staff and in the Office of the Secretary of the Navy. More recently he served as the Maritime Logistics Planner on the staff of Special Operations Command, Europe, and then as the CRUDES/Amphib/LCS Requirements Officer in the Warfare Requirements, Resources and Force Structure Directorate (N8) on the staff of Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
In 2002 CDR Langhofer earned a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management from George Washington University. He is also a 2007 graduate of the Air Command and Staff College, where he earned a Master of Arts in Military Operational Art and Science.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards).
