Meyer (DDG 108) Sailor, Gas Turbine Technician (Mechanical) 2nd Class Petty Officer Maria Antonio, was selected along with five other San Diego-based Sailors as a National City Filipino Times Filipino Sailor of the year.  The award is presented to Sailors of Filipino descent who demonstrated outstanding leadership ability, professional knowledge, performance, and military bearing.  The award was presented by Naval Base San Diego Commanding Officer, Capt. Winton Smith, at the Filipino-American (Fil-Am) Festival held at Kimball Park in National City, June 9. Other awardees included: Gas Turbine Technician (Mechanical) 1st Class Petty Officer Rachelle Mercado, Region Headquarters Legal Services Office; Command Master Chief Jeremiah J. Montanez, Region Command West; Engineman 2nd Class Petty Officer Samantha Angosta, USS Comstock (LSD 45); Fire Controlman 1st Class Petty Officer Mark Morales, Center for Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) West San Diego; and Personnelman 2nd Class Petty Officer Carlo J.
