A native New Yorker, Commander Lex Walker began his naval service in 1989 by entering the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) Program. Upon completing BOOST he attended The Jacksonville University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Communications. Commander Walker was commissioned on December 16, 1994.
Commander Walker has served at sea as Communications Officer and First Lieutenant in USS ROBERT G. BRADLEY (FFG 49), Main Propulsion Assistant and Training Officer in USS HAYLER (DD 997), Engineer Officer in USS COLE (DDG 67) and USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55), and as Executive Officer in USS BULKELEY (DDG 84).
Commander Walker has served ashore as a DD/CG Gas Turbine Instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, RI; as a Navy Washington, DC Intern (earning Master of Arts degrees in Organizational Management from The George Washington University and National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College), and as a post-Department Head Detailer (PERS-411) at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, TN.
Commander Walker has been awarded a Meritorious Service Medal, six Navy Commendation Medals, and various unit and service awards.
