Raised in Williston, North Dakota, Commander Mikael A. Rockstad graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in May 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in history. He also holds Master of Arts degrees in organizational management from The George Washington University and in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
CDR Rockstad’s sea duty includes division officer assignments in USS ANTIETAM (CG 54) as communications officer and strike warfare officer, in USS GARY (FFG 51) as fire control officer, and USS THACH (FFG 43) as auxiliaries and electrical officer and navigator; and department head assignments in USS HOWARD (DDG 83) as weapons officer and combat systems officer.
CDR Rockstad’s shore duty includes assignments at Fleet Combat Training Center Pacific as a cruise missile instructor, at Navy Personnel Command as a surface warfare placement officer, and at the Joint Staff, Operations Directorate (J3) as an action officer for ballistic missile defense issues.
