Command Master Chief
CMDCM(SW) Mark Gilmore is a native of Dallas, TX and raised in nearby Garland, TX where he graduated from South Garland High School in 1983. He enlisted in the Navy in 1987 and attended recruit training in Orlando, FL in 1988 and Disbursing Clerk “A” School in Meridian, MS. His first tour of duty was at Personnel Support Detachment, Naval Station, Charleston, SC where he was advanced to Second Class Petty Officer and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Limestone College.
In June 1992 he reported aboard USS Antrim (FFG-20). After a highly successfully tour that included qualifying as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist , selection as the command’s Sailor of the Year and advancement to Petty Officer First Class, he transferred in June 1996.
In June 1996, he reported to Commander, Naval Reserve Forces, New Orleans, La. While assigned to COMNAVRESFOR he was once again selected as the command’s Sailor or the Year and selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer.
Following his tour at COMNAVRESFOR, he transferred to Reserve Personnel Management Assistance Team in January 1999 where he served as the Leading Chief Petty Officer.
In August 2002, Gilmore reported to Naval Reserve Center, Lubbock, Texas where he served as the Command Chief and was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer.
After his tour at Navy Reserve Center Lubbock, Senior Chief Gilmore attended the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 125) and reported to Commander, Navy Personnel Command, Millington TN in September 2006 where he received a Masters Degree in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas.
In August 2009, he transferred to Destroyer Squadron One, San Diego California where he served as the Manpower and Personnel Officer. While assigned to DESRONE ONE, he completed two deployments aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer.
In September 2011, he reported to Commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command in Norfolk, VA where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Operations Department and was selected for Command Master Chief.
In June 2013, he attended the Command Master Chief Course and reported aboard USS Sterett (DDG-104) where he currently serves as the Command Master Chief.
Command Master Chief Gilmore has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various unit awards.
